In "The Scarlet Letter", was Hester Prynne's affair consensual?

It was consensual. Throughout the book, it's implied that Hester and Dimmesdale did love one another, and I believe in chapter 17 or 18 they even plan to leave together with Pearl so they can escape the scorn of society and live together. Obviously, it never happens, but still.
