It smells weird down there...help please?

My period is coming in about 2 weeks and my vagina is smelling. The smell is pungent and if I open my legs, I can smell it. This smell usually occurs every 2-3 months and I'm worried. I know it sounds weird, but I can smell it through my shorts! I do wash my vagina, I'm not sexually active, I don't use sprays/deodorant, and I have never douched. I also occasionally feel some pain up IN there, but that's very rare. Also, I'm thirteen and I've been having my period for about nearly 2 years. Does this signal an infection? I'm considering going to the doctor, but I'm not sure, so please give me some advice. Please don't give me any bullshit like "ew that's so gross" or anything like that. Thanks!
