Why is pedophilia towards teenagers illegal?

Ok so I can understand why its wrong for an adult to date a small child under like 13, but aren't teenagers usually old enough to wipe their own a** and know who they want to date? As long as its consensual whats wrong with a 16 year old girl dating a 40 year old man? I personally find it gross but that doesn't mean Im going to say its wrong.
